Configuring the SIP Client on Nokia Phones Running Symbian 9.2 and 9.3
May 17, 2022
First, install Nokia's native SIP client for your phone from:
https://t.me/symbian_world/199402
Choose the appropriate version according to this table:
These instructions were written for the Nokia N86 (Symbian 9.3). For phones running Symbian 9.2, the steps should be similar or identical.
Step-by-step configuration
1. Open Settings → Connectivity → Net Settings.
2. Select Advanced VoIP Settings.
3. Select Create New Service, then Create New SIP Profile.
4. Enter your SIP account username and password.
For example:
Username:
12345@sip.zadarma.comPassword:
qwerty
5. Press OK a couple of times to complete the setup.
That's it! Your old Nokia phone has now become a surprisingly capable SIP client.
Even with a persistent SIP connection, the impact on battery life is barely noticeable.
P.S. Removing the SIP Configuration
If, for any reason, you cannot use internet calling (for example, because your phone is too slow), or you decide to remove the SIP configuration for another reason, doing so is simple.
Navigate to:
Settings → Connectivity → Net Settings
Select the SIP profile/account you want to remove, then delete it using the options menu.
