Symbian: 2FA on Google and IMAP/POP/SMTP access to Gmail

After disabling Less Secure Access, old email clients (without TOTP support) lost access to Gmail.

There is a solution for Symbian and other Java/J2ME phones: TOTP for Java/J2ME phones (including Symbian): https://sourceforge.net/projects/totpme/files/latest/download (source)

If https doesn't work, then the second one link http://boostapps.com/apps/totp-me-google-2-step-authenicator (without ads and with explanations)

Instructions for configuring 2FA on a Google account: http://totpme.sourceforge.net/totp-me_as_GoogleAuthenticator .html

Internet is not required, but a working SIM card must be inserted into the phone and automatic time updating must be enabled on the phone. Phone-->Time and Date--> Automatic time update: On

I just checked on Google and Facebook accounts: the token is generated correctly with a SIM card inserted (and incorrectly without a SIM card).

Change the name to totpe.zip, open the archive and run the jar (or jad for older devices)

The only way to connect to Gmail on Symbian smartphones is to enable 2FA and then generate an "Application specific password" and already connect to Gmail with it.

As of December 2022 most of Google accounts block IMAP/POP/SMTP if accessed using main password.
